#7
Not typically regarded as an ‘electronic music’ album. There is no Moog on this album; Pete Townsend used Arp synthesizers. The use is very understated.

The most obvious synthesizer work appears in the song ‘Bargain’. It is hard to believe that the iconic “sequencer” sound heard on ‘Baba O’Riley’ was NOT created on Townsend’s huge ARP 2500, but a lot of people say that the sound was created on a Lowrey organ. Read Pete Townsend’s own words.

Listen to what sounds like guitar played through a highly resonant filter on ‘Going Mobile’. Sort of like an ultra-wah-wah. On ‘Won’t Get Fooled Again’ the organ is modulated by a filter. Not very flashy, but quite effective.

All of this holds up quite well. It sounds classic, rather than dated. Even if you have no interest in synthesizers, you should have this album in your collection, if only to listen to the completely ‘over-the-top’ drumming of the late Keith Moon.
