Before the ‘Miami Vice’ theme but after his stint with Mahavishnu Orchestra, Jan Hammer put out this album. There is no guitar on this recording. Hammer played all the keyboards, and he played the drums, too.

The Moog synthesizer is the first practical instrument which is capable of creating many, very different sounds. This capability must have inspired many keyboard players to believe that they no longer needed to collaborate with other musicians. Using multitrack techniques made possible by the tape recorder, they could ‘be their own band’.
